E-Mail from Tom

Friends,

Eleven days before Tom died, he sent me an e-mail which I would like to share with all of you:

Hi, Mary Lou…So nice to receive your thoughtful message! Nothing exciting to report—some days good, some (more!) days not so good. If I could predict the former, I’d invite everyone over for a chat—about everything. Some day that will happen.

Thanks, again though, kid. It’s so good hearing from you. (Today’s an ‘up’ day, so you’re getting a response. Lots of days I don’t even have the energy to look at the computer.)

I believe the above message is for all of us. So on our behalf I say:

Yes, Tom, we will have that chat—someday. In the meantime, thanks for being a wonderful leader.

You taught us the ways of non-violence, peace, and justice by living the life of a peacemaker, the stuff of Merton, Gandhi, de Chardin, Romero, and others. God bless you and rest in peace until we meet again.
